Published: 31 October 2013

This document compiles works of the regional symposium "pastoral livestock: a sustainable contribution to the development and security of the Saharo-Sahelian areas" which was held in N'Djamena (Chad) last May. This event brought together 235 people ―scientists, development practitioners, representatives of national and regional public organizations, professional organizations, civil society— from 17 countries who exchanged experiences and improved policies for sustainable development of pastoral areas.

The proceedings of this Symposium include the different communications and discussions’ summaries that occurred during these three days as well as the N'Djamena Declaration. This Declaration defines the political and strategic orientations emanating from the ministerial conference on the basis of this Symposium (governance and security, pastoral societies’ resilience, socio-economic viability).
